Sitting GCSE examinations can be a daunting milestone for any teenager, but for home-educated young people, anxious learners, or children on an Education Otherwise Than At School (EOTAS) package, the traditional exam environment often feels insurmountable. Under the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) regulations in England, access arrangements - such as 25% extra time, a separate room, or rest breaks - cannot be granted based solely on an external assessment. The exam centre must gather direct evidence of a student's "normal way of working".
