Science Tutor

Salary: £19.73 per hour (comprising £17.61 + 12.07% holiday pay), increasing up to £39.73 per hour for group sessions.

Job Purpose

To provide high-quality Science tuition to students on a 1:1 basis or in small groups, covering Science up to GCSE level.

You will need a recognised teaching qualification, a strong understanding of Science and the ability to adapt your teaching to different curriculums and the individual needs of students.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging 1:1 and small-group Science tuition, focusing on students' individual learning needs and academic goals.
• Teach Science up to GCSE level, covering relevant topics across Biology, Chemistry and Physics, as appropriate to your expertise.
• Create engaging lesson plans and educational materials tailored to students' abilities, curriculum requirements and learning objectives, with support from our team.
• Explain scientific concepts clearly and confidently, helping students develop their knowledge, understanding and confidence.
• Adapt teaching strategies for students with SEND, ensuring lessons are inclusive, accessible and responsive to individual needs.
• Monitor and assess student progress, providing regular feedback and identifying areas for further development.
• Support students in preparing for assessments and GCSE examinations where appropriate.
• Collaborate with other tutors, educators and professionals to support student development and success.
• Maintain accurate student lesson notes and use our VLE to upload and access teaching resources.
• Contribute to a positive, supportive and inclusive learning environment.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed Key Stage 3 Tutor to join our team in Worcester and support the continued growth of our Young Minds provision.

The Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a flexible and motivated tutor to deliver high-quality tuition to small groups of students in Years 7 - 9.

Our students have a range of abilities and learning needs, and some may be working below age-related expectations. We are looking for someone who can adapt their teaching approach to meet individual needs, engage learners and help them make meaningful academic progress.

Initially, you will work with two groups of students within our 10am - 1pm teaching timetable. You will also work collaboratively with the wider team to provide continuity of learning and cover when required.

The role will suit a tutor who enjoys working in a small-group setting, can teach across the core curriculum and is passionate about helping young people reach their potential.

• Monitor, assess and record student progress, identifying areas where additional support may be required.

About You

You will be adaptable, organised and confident in adjusting your teaching methods to support students with different educational needs and abilities.

Requirements

Essential requirements:

• An undergraduate degree and a teaching qualification.
• Teaching or tutoring experience.
• The ability to teach across the core subjects at Key Stage 3 in line with the National Curriculum.
• Strong planning, organisation and communication skills.

• A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Desirable experience:

Working Hours

The position is initially offered on a permanent, term-time-only basis, Monday to Friday.

Working hours are 9.30am–1.30pm, with teaching delivered between 10am and 1pm. The remaining time will be allocated to lesson planning, preparation, assessment and related administrative responsibilities.

Flexibility is important, as you may occasionally be required to support colleagues or provide cover to maintain continuity for our students.
