The purpose of this Attendance Policy is to establish guidelines and procedures for employees/students to ensure consistent attendance and punctuality, fostering a productive and efficient work/study environment. Regular attendance is crucial for the success of both individuals and the organisation/institution as a whole.
All employees/students are expected to attend work/classes regularly and be punctual. Regular attendance includes arriving on time and being present for the entire scheduled work shift/class period.
Employees/students should be reliable and dependable in their attendance, demonstrating a commitment to their responsibilities and obligations. Any absence or tardiness should be minimised and only occur under unavoidable circumstances.
Employees/students are required to notify Worcester Learning Zone Ltd as soon as possible, but no later than one hour before the scheduled start of work/class, in the event of an absence. Notification should be given either in person or by phone.
Employees/students may be required to provide appropriate documentation for absences, such as medical certificates or other valid supporting documents, especially for extended absences. Failure to provide adequate documentation may result in the absence being considered as unexcused.
Excused absences are those that are pre-approved or due to legitimate reasons such as illness, bereavement, personal emergencies, jury duty, or religious observances. Employees/students are encouraged to inform their supervisor/instructor about planned absences well in advance, whenever possible.
Unexcused absences are those that occur without prior approval or are not supported by appropriate documentation. Failure to report an absence or failure to provide satisfactory documentation within three days may result in the absence being considered unexcused.
In case of repeated or excessive absences, tardiness, or a pattern of unreliable attendance, employees/students may be subject to counselling by their supervisor/instructor. A verbal warning may be issued, emphasising the importance of regular attendance and the potential consequences of continued non-compliance.
If attendance issues persist despite counselling, a written warning may be issued to the employee/student. The warning will outline the specific concerns, expectations for improvement, and potential consequences of further non-attendance.
Continued non-attendance or failure to comply with the attendance policy may lead to further disciplinary actions, such as suspension, loss of privileges, probation, or, in severe cases, termination of employment/expulsion from the institution. The severity of the disciplinary action will depend on the circumstances and the frequency and duration of absences.
Employees/students are encouraged to seek assistance and support when facing challenges that affect their attendance. They should communicate any difficulties to their supervisor/instructor or the appropriate department responsible for employee/student well-being. Reasonable accommodations may be considered, where applicable.
This Attendance Policy will be periodically reviewed and updated as necessary to ensure its effectiveness and alignment with Worcester Learning Zone Ltd’s goals and requirements. By adhering to this Attendance Policy, we aim to create an environment of accountability, reliability, and productivity while providing employees/students with the necessary resources and support to meet attendance expectations.
