WLZ Student included in prestigious literary anthology.

We are absolutely thrilled to announce the fantastic GCSE results achieved by our hardworking students here in Worcestershire! Their dedication, combined with the tireless support from our brilliant team, has paid off in spades.

The numbers speak for themselves and we couldn't be prouder:

  • A phenomenal 90% of all exams taken resulted in a pass at Grade 4 or above—that's the equivalent of a C in old money! It’s incredible to see so many of our students secure that crucial pass mark.
  • Moving up to the top grades, 26% of exams received a Grade 7 or above—a huge well done for hitting that A-grade level success!
  • And finally, the most exceptional statistic: 11% of all exams were deemed to be Grade 9! To have over one in ten exams at the highest possible grade is simply outstanding.

We are so incredibly proud of ALL our amazing GCSE students. They’ve worked so hard and gave their absolute all to their exams. From all of us, we wish them the very best in whatever they choose to do next—whether it's starting A-Levels, college courses, or apprenticeships. Go out there and achieve great things!

We also want to give a massive thank you to our phenomenal tutoring team. They ensured every student had the very best tuition, advice, and nurturing environment to meet their full potential. You are all truly brilliant!

We Did It! Our GCSE Students Shine in Worcestershire - and Our Support Continues!

On Saturday 20th September, Worcester became a canvas for vibrant contemporary art, thanks to the annual Worcester Paint Festival, celebrating Street Art and Graffiti Writing Culture. More than just a collection of stunning murals, this festival has become a force for good, transforming urban spaces and, crucially, positively impacting the local community, especially its young people, by bringing world-class street artists right to our doorstep, creating an open-air gallery that everyone can enjoy free of charge.

“Education and creativity go hand in hand,” said Natasha, Director of WLZ Tutors. “Being a main sponsor of this year’s festival and supporting SATR reflects our belief that inclusive, community-based projects can transform not only spaces but also how people see the world. Watching families, young people, and local businesses come together around art is exactly what we stand for.”

This year, one of the most talked-about pieces was from the globally-renowned artist, SATR. Based in Guangzhou, China, SATR has been an influential force in the street art scene since 2013. Her work is a masterful fusion of traditional Chinese painting and Western graffiti techniques. She is best known for her unique ability to use spray paint atomization to create smoky, ethereal animals with a dynamic, almost spiritual quality. By using a limited palette of black, white, grey, and red, she creates a powerful visual style that balances the bold energy of graffiti with the delicate, nuanced brushwork of Eastern art. Her murals often feature animals, particularly felines, which she believes are perfect for expressing a wide range of emotions.

A Catalyst for Creativity and Aspiration

Instead of art being confined to museums, Worcester Paint Festival brings it to life on the streets, demonstrating that creativity can be a powerful form of expression and even a viable career path. Watching artists like SATR transform a blank wall into a masterpiece of international art instills a sense of wonder and encourages budding Street and Graffiti artists to pick up a brush (or a spray can!) themselves.

The festival includes workshops and opportunities for younger artists to get involved, fostering a sense of ownership and pride in their city's evolving artistic landscape. It shows them that their voices and visions are valued.

WLZ Tutors: Investing in Worcester's Future

This year, we at WLZ Tutors were incredibly proud to be a sponsor of the mural created by SATR. Our mission, as a student-centred learning provision, is to empower young people through education, helping them to achieve their full potential. Our approach is rooted in making learning enjoyable, worthwhile, and accessible to every individual. We believe that a well-rounded education extends beyond the classroom, encompassing creativity, a sense of belonging, and a vibrant, supportive community.

Our sponsorship of this mural was about more than just putting our name to a piece of street art; it was an act of investment in the future of Worcester. It was about supporting an initiative that directly enriches the lives of young people, offering them inspiration, creativity, and a sense of belonging. Worcester Paint Festival demystifies art and shows that a creative career is a real possibility. For us, this aligns perfectly with our work providing bespoke learning packages for all our students. We understand that every young person's path is unique, and we are committed to providing the supportive, adaptable environment they need to thrive, whether in academics or the arts. The mural we sponsored stands as a testament to the power of collaboration between local businesses and cultural events, demonstrating a shared commitment to making Worcester a fantastic place to live, learn, and grow.

Festival organiser Kate Cox added:

“Worcester Paint Festival is built on community, collaboration, and inclusivity. Support from main sponsors like WLZ Tutors ensures we can continue bringing world-class Street Artists like SATR to Worcester, inspiring residents and visitors alike. It’s about leaving behind more than paint – it’s about leaving a positive, creative legacy within this vibrant scene.”

Working specifically within the Street and Graffiti Art scene, WPF celebrates this incredible art form. Artists in this scene are embedded in its culture, happily work together, and all nurture their very own unique, identifiable style that you could easily spot if you travel around the world. We're very excited that this is one of only two SATR pieces currently in the UK."

We believe that by supporting events like Worcester Paint Festival, we are not just funding art; we are nurturing talent, fostering community pride, and creating a more vibrant, inspiring environment for the next generation. We cannot wait to see what masterpieces emerge next year!

FAQ

WLZ believes that education should start with the learner and adapt to suit their needs. We provide a range of educational services to children, young people, and adults, and all of our trained and DBS checked tutors share the belief that education should be enjoyable, worthwhile and accessible. We are independent and therefore able to provide flexible and bespoke learning opportunities suited to everyone.

We offer support for primary, secondary further and higher education and can prepare students for exams such as SATs, Functional Skills, GCSEs, A levels, and more. We also offer the AQA Unit Award Scheme, which offers certification in a range of subjects from bike maintenance to maths and English.

Our tuition is open to all young people aged 8 to 18, as well as adults. Our afterschool tuition is open to students wanting to build confidence, boost enjoyment and fulfil their potential. Some, but not all, of our evening students may have a specific learning difficulty, such as dyslexia, dyscalculia or dyspraxia and our tutors can adapt sessions to suit the individual needs of these students. In addition, we offer bespoke learning packages for students who are not accessing education in a school or college. Many students come to us in the day time as part of an EOTAS (Educated other than at school or college) package, or have a personal budget (PB). We can tailor our tuition to suit students who are electively home educated. Let us know what you need, and we can build a package that provides an exciting curriculum and suits your budget.

Rather than a free lesson, we offer a free consultation. During this free half hour session, we take time to discuss the learner’s needs. We will show you around the education centre and then you can tell us all about your goals, strengths and challenges. This free session allows us to learn more about you and how you learn, so that we can tailor our tuition just for you. We feel this free session is far more valuable than a free trial lesson, as it gives us time to learn about you and your needs.

Each session lasts 55 minutes. When sessions run back to back, your child will be offered a five minute comfort break around the 55 minute mark.

You will be given your own log in to our student portal. This allows access to notes about your child’s progress, the content of their sessions, worksheets and homework and your fees record. You are welcome to return before the end of the session to have a quick chat with the tutor – please let them know you plan to do this at the beginning of the session so they can plan their lesson timings accordingly. We will always be happy to book any additional sessions with the tutor should you need a longer discussion. These can be booked at reception.

We accept self-funded and funded students. Sources of funding include personal budgets or EOTAS packages acquired through an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP) via the local authority.

WLZ holds the quality of service we offer to a high standard, and in line with this, we are fully OFSTED Registered.

Our son has been doing weekly Maths lessons with an excellent (skilled!), enthusiastic and charismatic teacher at WLZ since last September (2024). It has been brilliant for his confidence and not only that my year 9 son, has not even objected once to additional work after School, and it has definitely cemented his motivation when he is back in the classroom. We are looking forward to more lessons after the holidays. - Kate Brooks

WLZ have been supporting my son since year 5. At this time we were told he was struggling and felt some 1:1 tuition would help. Now going into year 11 not only is he taking the maths higher paper, but has a wonderful nourishing relationship with his WLZ tutor. Due to this he has grown in confidence and excelling across all his subjects. I don’t think that this would’ve happened without WLZ - HJS

My child has had some struggles lately with her school. We have started with a science tutor at home and to begin with she was extremely anxious but she now enjoys her lessons even though she’s only had 2 lessons. I also like the fact as a parent you also get feedback on the lesson on a portal. - Danielle Coombes

WLZ supported my son with Physics and Chemistry up to his GCSE and filled the gaps left by on line classes over covid. We did so well in his exams with the support of Ed. This year he is getting Maths support ensure he gets the best possible core maths grade and boost his GCSE grade. Thank you WLZ! - Bridget Robinson

My son has been receiving support with maths at WLZ and I have seen a noticeable improvement in his confidence across the board; more motivation with homework, exams and participation in class. He comes out after a session full of enthusiasm and has always enjoyed the hour. Gaps from primary school have been addressed, developing a solid foundation for his secondary education, and he feels able to address areas he may need support on during the session. Email reminders and feedback are extremely helpful. I only wish we'd started with WLZ sooner! - Mel Harker
